There are two things that characterize the entertainment scene in Austin: live music and the nightlife. You may have heard a friend referring to Austin as the Live Music Capital of the World. Indeed, this is one of the things you'll enjoy when you visit this city. Even non-locals enjoy this city's feature. The same label is even used by Austin as their official city slogan.
The picture that may come to your mind when the term "nightlife" is mentioned is a dark place full of smoke with bright lights and a lot of people. This is the very same image of the nightlife in Austin. You may have noticed that these factor and the preceding one are intertwined. Indeed, these two may be combined to derive what Austin entertainment is all about.
The main area of concentration of Austin's entertainment scene is on 6th Street. In this area, annual festivals are also held collectively referred to as South by Southwest. Film, music and multimedia are celebrated in these festivals. There are also a number of theaters in Austin, where live performances are regularly held, including Salvage Vanguard Theater, Scott Theater Center, Vortex Repertory Company, Arts on real, etc.
Entertainment in Austin also comes in the form of a televised concert music program. Austin City Limits is the longest running program in this genre, which is taped in the premises of the University of Texas. Every year, the same show produces a music festival in cooperation with Capital Sports and Entertainment, held at Zilker Park, Austin.
Still to attest to the preferred form of entertainment, Austin has a long-running outdoor musical called the Zilker Park Summer Musical, already running on its 50th year. They also hold the Urban Music Festival, the Austin Reggae Festival, and Eeyore's Birthday Party every April and Carnaval every February. Other annual occasions are well-celebrated in Austin, which attests to how fun loving their people are.
